Reading Strategies

So with the book Mind Gym, I used 3 key reading strategies to get me through the book, know a lot more from the book, and help me become a better reader. The 3 reading strategies that I did and worked for me was: 1. Skim, read, and re-read 2. Take notes 3. Evaluate what I Understand. With these strategies, they helped me to learn and understand the book easier.

1. SKIM, READ, and RE-READ:
With what I did with this is when I first got the book I skimmed through it. This book was recommended by a friend to me and he told me that it would be good book to read and help me out with my life and sport. But I skimmed through it first to see how it looked and what kind of a book it was. I learned from skimming through it, that it was a knowledgeable book and that it was also an instructional book as well. The first thing I skimmed through and looked at was the table of context and trying to make guesses on what that section had to do with what I will read about.
After I skimmed through the book I read it. I just flat out read it and didn't do any strategies but just plain reading it though. To me when I read it for the first time, I got the knowledge of what the book is about and what I will learn in it. And I learned about when I first was skimming on what all the contents titles were about. After reading the book, I decide to take it slow and re-read the book again, but this time I would do more than just read it, I would take notes and study on what I need to learn to more understand the book.


2. TAKING NOTE:
So the second time I read the book I decide to take notes. I took notes because I don't like making out my books, so I rather take notes and have them in the book instead of marking up the book with pen and highlighters. So I used sticky notes to put all over the book and write notes that I thought were important, things that were important, and things to understand and learn from. Notes that I took from the book was important people and books. In the book there are a lot of important people and books in the book that they mentioned. I wrote that down in my notes so that way I can go back and look and study those things and maybe go a head and read the books that they write down. I also wrote down on what it was describing about as well on why you should know who that person is and why you should read their book.




So with the next set of notes I took was what I could learned from the book. There is a lot of useful tips and exercises that are very useful. These tips that they have in this book is very useful and very helpful. In the picture right below this, shows a lot of emotions and give you tips on how to control them and how to make you better. This helped me out for when I do have these emotions I just think of this book and I use it to make me change and manage my emotions so that way I'm a better person in life and in my sport.

So with me writing all these notes down they help me get ready and help me better my reading so that way I know and understand fully on what I'm reading. I like having the notes in the book because I can go back and know what is going on with the book and I learn so much rather than just what I read, I studied and made me understand more than just the reading.

3. EVALUATED WHAT I UNDERSTAND:
Their was a lot that I learned from this book. I learned a lot about being a good person and being true to myself. I learned how to be a better athlete and a better person. This book showed me how I shouldn't be negative towards myself at all. I should always be positive and be the best that I can be. One thing in the book shows me is inner excellence. In the book it gives examples and tells me how to have that inner excellence and how to get better at it. I like to learn a lot on this and I think that the book helped me out that it made me to a better person. To me when i us this strategy, I want to know what i have learn so i go through my notes and figure out what i learn and sometimes when i re-read also, i learn new things or older things that i have forgotten.

Evaluation

When I came to this class, I had no hope at all for me in the class. I have always had trouble reading and it was never my strong suit. I never liked it and I know its in our everyday lives but I try to not read as much as I can. But after this class feel much more better about myself. I have more confidents in myself and I like to read now. Knowing what I learned from reading 085 I feel so much better and feel that it works a lot better than what I used to do. It will help me out with school, it will help me out with jobs, and it will help me out with everyday life even when I'm at home. What I learned from this class was that a lot of these strategies work so nicely. Me taking notes while i read help me learn and helps me remember things, me skimming helps me figure out what the book is going to be about and what i might be looking for, re-reading the book helps me learn on what i forgot or what i missed when i re-read, and all the other strategies helps me with better my reading and getting me to know what else i need to know. My current strengths right now for reading is that I'm remembering a lot more because i take notes and I re-read it again, I'm reading as well, because this class has helped me make reading easier, and I take better notes that way too, knowing what i should write and what i should study for my notes. This was a great class and I learned so much about myself and about how to read a lot easier. I am a much better reader now and it is because of this class.

Visual/Summary

In the book "Mind Gym: An Athlete's Guide to Inner Excellence" by Gary Mack and David Casstevens it describes how to get into your inner mind and how you can control it and make you into a better Athlete and person. In this book, they research on all kinds of sports to see how athletes play their game and what they have done to make themselves better at whet they love to do. They describe that you need to have a positive attitude to when it comes to life and when it comes to your sport. You bring yourself down in life and sports you won't be able to accomplish a lot in what you are doing. A lot of athlete's that the author has interviewed for this book has gone through all this phases that they don't what it takes in their sport. So they explain on what was going on with the athlete's and what they did to get back on top and make them better than what they are. But this book is not all about athlete's having their bad days and bringing them back to a very good athlete again, it talks so much about how to improve yourself in life and in sports. It describes that you always want to think positive and it gives very good examples to do that and to expand the mind. Your mind is very powerful tool in your body and it is the key tool in making you a better person and being very healthy. This is a very great book that i was very excited to read and to learn from. i learned a lot from this book and it makes me feel better about myself, gets me going in life, and it makes me into a better athlete as well when i play my sports. I very much recommend this book to athletes everywhere and to anyone that wants to expand and better their mind.
